Becoming a Center of Excellence for companies like Walmart

by admin 0 Comments

Eligible Walmart employees who need hip or knee replacements will be traveling to Boston on Walmart’s dime for their surgeries and will have their care, travel and lodging fully covered. Walmart has selected Boston-based New England Baptist Hospital as a center of excellence for Walmart’s employees needing joint replacement procedures, according to Becker’s Hospital Review.[1]

The huge retailer made news several years ago when it created a network of top-rated healthcare facilities and providers across the country with exclusive and uniquely-bundled pricing arrangements for a few, high ticket procedures such as knee replacements, spine surgeries and even heart transplants. When Walmart associates utilize services from designated Centers of Excellence, they receive superior care without paying copays, deductibles or even travel expenses for themselves and a caregiver. Walmart has controlled waste, over-treatment, and misdiagnoses in health plans with their exclusive network.[2]

Walmart isn’t the only company taking this path. Becker’s reports that “self-insured companies are increasingly contracting directly with providers for specialty care and treatment to trim costs. NEBH has similar arrangements with UniCare and General Electric.”[3]

It’s no wonder that NEBH is looking for bundled payment partnerships with self-insured companies. Moody’s recently reported that median operating margins for nonprofit hospitals have hit a 10-year low, sinking to 8.1% in 2017.[4] Providers looking to remain healthy need to adjust business strategies according to the times.

As more companies look to provide higher quality, lower-priced healthcare services for their employees, you can market your specialty as a center of excellence, too. Whether you specialize in cardiology, brain surgery, orthopedics, sports medicine, gastrointestinal disorders, diabetes, or any specialty, you might consider partnering with self-insured corporations to offer similar terms like NEBH is offering to Walmart.

Imagine if your hospital was the provider of choice for Walmart’s employees. Or any self-insured corporation. Think of the many benefits to employers and their employees (your consumers) plus increased business and revenue that would generate for you. Becoming a center of excellence will provide you with increased volume, which, will in turn, allow you to offer lower prices. This is a win for you, the employer and the consumer.

You can become a center of excellence, today, using HealthQRS’ solution. You already have the specialty and high-quality providers. Our system helps you market those. In addition, our solution allows you to not only promote your specialty services but showcase all the procedures you offer. On the flip side, the employer can access reports to who is taking advantage of the programs as well as see how much the company is saving by using our solution.
